Speaker Matt Hall, a Michigan state legislator, shared several posts on August 12, 2025, addressing topics ranging from economic policy to education and trade. The tweets were published during and after his appearance at the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) 52nd Annual Meeting.

In a post from August 12, Hall stated: "Great to join @NotThatLars on @ALEC_states TV at their 52nd Annual Meeting to talk about keeping Michigan competitive by cutting waste, investing in infrastructure, and protecting our economy from the Senate Democrat's reckless tax-and-spend agenda."

Later that day, Hall highlighted concerns about educational performance in Michigan. He wrote on August 12: "Let’s look at the stats: 75% of 4th graders are not proficient in reading. 76% of 8th graders are not proficient in math. Michigan was ranked 44th out of 50 states in education.

On top of a budget Senate Dems refuse to pass, they also refuse to aid in deeper learning by banning"

Addressing trade issues later that evening, Hall posted: "If they want to play in America’s market, they should play by America’s rules. Tariffs are COMMON SENSE. Thank you @POTUS for your continuous leadership!" on August 12.

The ALEC annual meeting is a significant gathering where lawmakers discuss state-level policy solutions related to economic competitiveness and governance. In recent years, debates over education funding and performance have been prominent within Michigan politics as policymakers respond to persistent challenges with student proficiency rates across core subjects.

Trade policy has also remained a focal point nationally and within Michigan due to its manufacturing base and exposure to international markets.
