The Grand Valley State women's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Central Missouri on Sunday at the GVSU Soccer Field. With this result, the Lakers now hold a 3-1 record for the season, while Central Missouri drops to 1-2-1.

Central Missouri took an early lead in the third minute of play. Despite outshooting their opponent 11-6 in the first half, Grand Valley State was unable to score before halftime and trailed by one goal at the break.

In the second half, Grand Valley State maintained control of possession. The equalizer came in the 54th minute when Alli French intercepted a pass from a Central Missouri defender and scored her first goal of the season with a shot to the bottom left corner.

Ten minutes later, Ivy Wilhelm put Grand Valley State ahead for good. Cora Conley provided an assist to Wilhelm at the top of the box. Wilhelm created space and sent a shot that hit inside the post and found its way into the net for her first collegiate goal. Conley recorded her second assist of the season.

Grand Valley State finished with 19 shots compared to Central Missouri's seven, including eight shots on goal versus four for their opponent. The Lakers also earned 11 corner kicks while limiting Central Missouri to two.

Wilhelm led all players with four shots and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal. Sarah Fromm and Amanda Palmer each had three shots; French and Conley contributed two apiece. Acadia Murphy, Kacy Lauer, and Mackenzie Ford played every minute of regulation. Sara Csernyik started as goalkeeper and made two saves in the first half, while Macie Hunter took over after halftime and notched her first career win with one save.

The Lakers are set to begin conference play on Friday, September 19th against Saginaw Valley State in University Center, Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM, with live streaming available on FloSports.
