Forty-four athletes from Grand Valley State University's cross country teams are set to compete at two upcoming meets this weekend. The teams will participate in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, October 3, and the 20th Annual Knight Invite hosted by Calvin University on Saturday.
At the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, 22 women and 22 men from Grand Valley State will compete across four races starting at 9:50 a.m. Nine women will represent the university in the Women's Blue Division (5000m) race, facing athletes from nineteen other schools, all of which are NCAA Division I institutions. The remaining thirteen women will take part in the Women's Open Division (5000m) at 11:10 a.m.
On the men's side, nine runners will compete in the Men's Blue Division (8000m) race against athletes from nineteen schools, eighteen of which are NCAA Division I programs. This race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thirteen additional men will run in the Men's Open Division (8000m), which begins at 11:10 a.m.
The competition continues on Saturday at Calvin University with six women and seventeen men representing Grand Valley State at the Knight Invite. The women's 6k race starts at 10 a.m., featuring six true freshmen competing for GVSU. The men's 8k follows at 10:45 a.m., with participants ranging from true freshmen to redshirt-seniors.
