The Grand Valley State women's soccer team, ranked third nationally, secured a 1-0 victory over Parkside on Friday afternoon in Allendale, Michigan. The match featured the top two teams in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and drew a crowd of 451 spectators.
Both teams were unable to score during the first half. The Lakers registered five shots compared to one from Parkside, with each goalkeeper making one save. Corner kicks were even at two apiece through the first 45 minutes.
Grand Valley State broke the deadlock in the 77th minute following a corner kick. Sophia Morgan delivered the corner, passing to Ivy Wilhelm who headed it to Sarah Fromm for the decisive goal.
Defensively, Grand Valley State limited Parkside to four shots, with only two on target. Goalkeeper Macie Hunter made two saves and recorded her fourth consecutive shutout. Sarah Fromm led the team with five shots while Alli French and Cole Lance contributed two shots each. Defenders Kacy Lauer, Mackenzie Ford, and Acadia Murphy played all 90 minutes.
The Lakers improved their record to 7-1-0 overall and remain undefeated in GLIAC play at 4-0-0. They will travel next to face Purdue Northwest on Sunday at noon Eastern Time. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege; additional information is available at gvsulakers.com.
