Grand Valley State women's soccer hosts Parkside before facing Purdue Northwest

The Grand Valley State University women's soccer team, currently ranked No. 3, will host Parkside on Friday at 5:00 PM before traveling to face Purdue Northwest on Sunday at noon in Hammond, Indiana.

Grand Valley State is coming off consecutive 4-0 road wins against Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. The Lakers have started their conference schedule with a 3-0 record, recording three shutouts in those matches. Mackenzie Ford was recognized as the GLIAC defensive player of the week after scoring the winning goal against Northern Michigan and contributing to a defense that allowed only nine shots, three of which were on target. This is the second consecutive week that a Laker has earned this defensive honor.

So far this season, GVSU holds a 6-1 record and has outscored opponents by a margin of 16-4 while outshooting them 140-37. Sarah Fromm leads the team with four goals and nine points; she scored on a penalty kick against Northern Michigan and provided her first assist in the win over Michigan Tech. Alli French has recorded three goals and six points, leading the team with 19 shots—10 of them on target—and scored her second game-winning goal of the season versus Michigan Tech. Sonya Mehta and Ivy Wilhelm each have two goals and two assists for six points apiece. Cora Conley and Sophia Morgan are tied for the team lead with three assists each.

Freshman goalkeeper Macie Hunter has started in GVSU’s last three games, posting a perfect 4-0 record this season without conceding any goals during her current streak of three individual shutouts, making four saves.

Parkside enters Friday's match atop the GLIAC standings with a conference record of 3-0-1, one point ahead of GVSU after playing one more match. The Rangers hold an overall record of 3-3-1 and arrive in Allendale riding a three-game winning streak following victories over Saginaw Valley State (3-1) and Purdue Northwest (2-1). Emily Mikkelson leads Parkside with two goals and four assists for eight points; Ava Rizzitano has contributed two goals and three assists for seven points; Carley Nolte leads with three goals; Lindsay Dahlinger has notched two game-winning goals; Tristen Cross has made six starts as goalkeeper, tallying 30 saves.

Purdue Northwest stands at 3-2-2 overall with a 1-2 mark in conference play. They have outscored their opponents by eight to six but have been outshot by an aggregate margin of 76 to 65. Mia Davis leads Purdue Northwest offensively with four goals—including one game-winner—and eight points from seventeen shots (nine on target). Dakota Fulkerson and Addison Thomas have both contributed one goal and one assist each for three points apiece. Poppy Jackson is credited with seven starts as goalkeeper, making twenty-two saves so far this season.
