Grand Valley State University's women's soccer team secured a 2-0 victory against Purdue Northwest on Sunday in Hammond, Indiana. This win marks the Lakers' sixth consecutive win and their fifth straight shutout, improving their season record to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Lakers opened scoring early in the match. In the fifth minute, Sarah Fromm assisted Alli French, who moved past the last defender and scored her fourth goal of the season. "French got passed the last defender and beat the goalkeeper towards the bottom left of the goal for her fourth goal of the season," according to Grand Valley State's announcement. Fromm earned her second assist of the year and now leads her team with 12 points.

The team's lead increased midway through the first half when Kendall Aikens received a pass from Acadia Murphy and scored from outside the box in the 25th minute. The shot went over Purdue Northwest's goalkeeper for Aikens' first goal this season. Murphy recorded her first career point as a Laker with that assist.

During the first half, Grand Valley State outshot Purdue Northwest eight to zero and led two to zero in corner kicks. Both teams were scoreless in the second half, allowing GVSU to maintain its two-goal advantage until full time. Overall, GVSU had fifteen shots compared to three by Purdue Northwest and held a three-to-zero edge in shots on target.

Goalkeeper Macie Hunter started for GVSU and achieved her fifth consecutive shutout.

Vesna Dennison took three shots during seventy-two minutes played for GVSU. French added two shots alongside her game-winning goal—her third such tally this season. Aikens contributed one goal on two attempts across sixty-one minutes played. Mackenzie Ford and Acadia Murphy each played all ninety minutes.

Grand Valley State will continue its road schedule next week against Ferris State on Friday, October 10th at 1:00 PM in Big Rapids, Michigan. The match will be available via live stream on FloCollege.
