For the first time in its history, Grand Valley State University's men's and women's tennis teams have advanced players to compete in the ITA Cup, which began today in Rome, Georgia.
Natasha Sengphrachanh earned her place in the ITA Cup by winning the top bracket singles at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship, hosted at Davenport University last weekend. Sengphrachanh is the first singles player from Grand Valley State to claim the regional title, completing the tournament with a 6-0 record. She will play against the leading singles competitor from Queens (N.Y.) in the opening round.
On the men's team, Patricio Sepulveda and Bora Bakici qualified for the ITA Cup after winning the top bracket doubles championship at the ITA Midwest Regionals, which took place at Grand Valley State. This makes them the second doubles team from the university to win this regional event, following Lucas Gonzalez and Victor Lopes's victory last year. Sepulveda and Bakici are set to compete against the top doubles pair from St. Thomas Aquinas in their first match today at 4:00 PM.
