Grand Valley State swimmers and diver receive GLIAC weekly honors

Three athletes from Grand Valley State University have been recognized as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swim and Dive Athletes of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference.

Elliott McAlpine was selected as the Women's Swimmer of the Week for the first time in her career at Grand Valley State. McAlpine participated in the 200 medley relay team that finished fourth at a recent tri-meet against Calvin and Saginaw Valley, with a time of 1:47.02. She also finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.05. In addition, McAlpine won the 200 breaststroke for the Lakers with a time of 2:16.49 and placed third in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 2:09.35.

Raul Briceno earned Men's Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time this season. Briceno secured second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:39.45 and took first place in the 500 freestyle, recording a time of 4:29.09. He was also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed fourth with a time of 3:08.86.

Emi Goto was named Women's Diver of the Week for the first time in her career at Grand Valley State. She placed first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 250.95 and took second place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 244.75.

The Grand Valley State Lakers are scheduled to compete again at their home pool on Saturday, October 25, where they will host Northern Michigan. Further details about this event will be announced. Updates can be found on Instagram at @gvsuswimdive and on Twitter at @gvsuswim.
