The Lakers have allowed only six goals throughout the season and achieved seven shutouts, both league bests. They also lead in total shots taken with 224 and rank second in goals scored with 23.
Sophomore Sarah Fromm has been an important contributor for GVSU, leading the team and ranking second in the GLIAC with six goals and 14 points. She also tops the conference with three game-winning goals. Freshman Ivy Wilhelm has accumulated ten points through three goals and four assists. Junior Alli French has scored four goals and is tied with Fromm for three game-winning goals. Junior Sonya Mehta recently scored her first career game-winning goal as a Laker in the match against Roosevelt; she now has three goals and two assists for eight points this season. Freshman goalkeeper Macie Hunter recorded her sixth shutout during that win and has allowed just two goals in nine games played.
Northern Michigan arrives in Allendale with a record of 3-6-4 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play. In their previous meeting this season, GVSU defeated Northern Michigan 4-0 on the road. The Wildcats are currently on a three-game losing streak, including losses to Saginaw Valley State and Davenport. Hannah Kastamo leads Northern Michigan's offense with four goals and two assists for ten points, while Addison Frantti follows with two goals and three assists for seven points. Goalkeeper Jillian Thompson has started seven matches, recording a 1-3-3 record along with 24 saves and two shutouts.
Michigan Tech comes into the weekend holding a 2-10-1 overall record and is 2-6-1 within the GLIAC. Earlier this season, GVSU beat Michigan Tech 4-0 away from home. Last weekend saw Michigan Tech lose to both Davenport and Saginaw Valley State on the road. Goalkeeper Bri Barrows leads all GLIAC goalkeepers with 61 saves this season—an average of just over five per game—while Peyton Wetzel is Michigan Tech’s top scorer with three goals and two assists.
