Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) has voted in support of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Report, which includes significant funding for military operations in Battle Creek. In addition, the legislation includes measures to strengthen security partnerships with the United Kingdom and Australia and counter China's influence in the Indo-Pacific Region.
The NDAA passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 310 to 118 and has already cleared the Senate. It now awaits President Biden's signature.
Congressman Huizenga emphasized the positive aspects of the bill, stating, "This bipartisan bill does not include every provision or reform that I believe is necessary, however, it takes a positive step forward by delivering the biggest pay raise for our troops in history." He also noted that the legislation provides a well-deserved pay raise for those working to secure the border.
Importantly, the NDAA includes $24.5 million in funding to strengthen military infrastructure in Battle Creek, benefiting Southwest Michigan directly. Congressman Huizenga highlighted this aspect, stating, "This legislation also directly impacts Southwest Michigan by including $24.5 million to strengthen our military infrastructure in Battle Creek."
In addition to the funding for Battle Creek, the bill includes Congressman Huizenga's legislation aimed at countering China's growing influence. He explained, "This bipartisan bill also includes my legislation to counter communist China's growing influence by strengthening our alliance with our British and Australian Allies." The legislation authorizes the sale of two Virginia Class nuclear-powered submarines to Australia, enhancing deterrence capabilities and readiness in the Indo-Pacific Region.
Congressman Huizenga's support for the NDAA showcases his commitment to national security and the well-being of our troops. With the bill's passage, our servicemen and women will see the largest pay raise in history, and Battle Creek will receive vital funding for military infrastructure. Additionally, efforts to counter China's influence in the Indo-Pacific Region are being bolstered through strengthened alliances with our British and Australian partners.
The NDAA Conference Report represents a bipartisan effort to prioritize troop pay, invest in local communities like Battle Creek, and enhance our national security. It is now up to President Biden to sign the bill into law and solidify its positive impacts for our military and the American people.
