Grand Valley State University (GVSU) secured a 2-1 victory over Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) in the GLIAC Tournament at Jackson Field in Lansing, Michigan. This win allows GVSU to advance to the championship round on Sunday.
Senior pitcher Sam Leck played a key role for GVSU, delivering an impressive performance by pitching a complete game. He allowed just one run on six hits and struck out eight batters. "Leck induced nine fly outs and seven ground outs," contributing significantly to the team's success. SVSU's only score came from a solo home run in the fifth inning.
GVSU took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Ayden VanEnkevort reached base on an error, followed by Kyle Nott's double to center field. Ryan Dykstra then singled to right field, driving in both VanEnkevort and Nott, which gave GVSU a 2-0 advantage.
Throughout the game, GVSU accumulated nine hits, including three doubles. Dykstra contributed with a two-RBI single while Nott, VanEnkevort, and Jake Rydquist each recorded two hits and doubled once. Both VanEnkevort and Nott scored one run each. Connor Schuman and Nate Logan also added to the offense with one hit apiece.
The Lakers will face their next opponent on Championship Sunday at 11 a.m., as they continue their pursuit of tournament success.
