Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is set to begin its participation in the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. The Lakers, seeded second, will face off against fifth-seeded Parkside on Thursday at 11 a.m. The tournament games will be held at Jackson Field in Lansing, Michigan.
This marks GVSU's 21st appearance in the GLIAC Tournament, where they hold an impressive all-time record of 52-17 and have claimed a league-best 11 tournament titles. During the regular season, GVSU had a 4-2 record against Parkside, with their last encounter occurring in early April.
Junior left fielder Ryan Dykstra was recently named GLIAC Player of the Week following his performance against Davenport. Dykstra achieved a batting average of .424 over the last 15 games and set a new single-season record for GVSU with two five-hit games.
Senior center fielder Kyle Nott has reached base in nearly every game this season and hit for the cycle during a game against Northwood. Nott is one of only two players in program history to reach milestones of 200 hits, 150 runs, 100 RBIs, and 50 stolen bases.
Third baseman Jonas Gulbrandsen leads the team with 68 hits and ranks second in RBIs with 41. Junior catcher Brendan Guciardo has been effective both overall and specifically within GLIAC play.
Shortstop Connor Schuman and sophomore Ayden VanEnkevort have also contributed significantly to the team's offense this season. Senior right fielder Nate Logan became GVSU's all-time leader in doubles while continuing to climb several career statistical categories.
Other notable performances include senior third baseman Jake Ryquist's recent hot streak at bat and senior first baseman Logan Anderson's contributions during GLIAC action.
On the mound, senior pitcher Nick Rutkowski has maintained solid statistics throughout his career at GVSU. As a team, GVSU has shown strong offensive output recently but faces challenges on the pitching side heading into tournament play.
