Myles Rhodes, a standout member of the Grand Valley State track and field team, has been awarded the NCAA Division II 50th Anniversary Scholarship. This announcement was made on Monday, May 20, during the opening ceremony for the Division II Festival in Orlando, Florida.
The Division II organization revealed that 46 student-athletes will receive this scholarship, each valued at over $1,000. These recipients were chosen from a pool of 196 nominations submitted by Division II schools. Conference offices reviewed these nominations and selected up to four finalists for further evaluation by the Division II Management Council Identity Subcommittee. Ultimately, one male and one female student-athlete from each of the 23 Division II conferences were chosen.
The scholarships are intended to honor those who have embodied the division's "Life in the Balance" philosophy through excellence in athletic competition, academic success, campus involvement, and community service.
Rhodes has set three school records at Grand Valley State within just two weeks of the regular track season. He holds records as part of the men's 400m and both relay teams (4x100 & 4x400). Rhodes is also preparing to compete in all three events at this weekend's NCAA Division II National Championships.
Academically, Rhodes is majoring in Health and Physical Education with a GPA of 3.5.
