Grand Valley State University (GVSU) has achieved a notable sweep of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekly honors in track and field for the third consecutive week. This marks their fourth overall sweep of the season. Destini Dorkins and Scott Spaanstra were acknowledged for their track performances, each receiving the award for the first time. Meanwhile, Erika Beistle and Jaivon Harrison were both recognized as top field athletes for the third time this season.
Dorkins participated in the 100m and 400m hurdles at the GVSU Weekend Meet. She improved her 100m hurdles record for the third consecutive week, achieving a time of 14.11 seconds, placing her second in the event. Her performance ranks her eighth in the history of Grand Valley State and currently 11th in NCAA Division II.
Spaanstra, participating in the men's 800m at Grand Valley State's Extra Weekend Meet, posted a time of 1:48.81. Despite finishing third, he recorded the second-fastest time in GVSU program history and was fourth-best across all NCAA divisions for the week. This achievement has earned him a place in the upcoming national competition.
Beistle, hailing from Rodney, Michigan, set a high standard at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet. She made a significant shot put throw of 16.00m and also made an impressive near-personal record in discus at 62.25m. Her performance places her at the top across all NCAA divisions for the week in discus and ranks her third and first in shot put and discus, respectively, in NCAA Division II.
Harrison excelled at the 2025 Drake Relays in the Men's Championship High Jump. His successful attempt at 2.21m placed him second, matching the highest mark but falling short on the countback. Harrison now shares the sixth spot in high jump rankings across all divisions of the NCAA.
These athlete recognitions underscore the strength and consistency of GVSU in track and field, demonstrating their competitive prowess on a national level.
