Grand Valley State University's track and field teams concluded their final competitions before the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. The Lakers participated in five last-chance meets across different locations, including Hillsdale College, Baldwin Wallace, St. Francis, Ann Arbor, and their own campus in Allendale.

The events saw several athletes achieving significant results. At the Hillsdale meet, the women's 4x100m relay team of Catherine Guckenberger, Taylor Kyle, Claire Neumann, and Alaina Diaz clocked a time of 45.52 seconds, marking the third-best performance in Grand Valley State's history.

On Thursday, the Lakers attended multiple meets but recorded no notable personal bests or NCAA qualifying marks. However, at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite in Joliet, Illinois, Abby VanderKooi secured her spot at nationals with a personal best of 34:43.67 in the 10,000m event.

The GVSU Last Chance Meet on Sunday featured strong performances from field athletes Shelby Ulven and Alaina Omonode in hammer throw events. Ulven's personal best of 61.22 meters earned her a place at nationals and ranked fourth all-time for Grand Valley State.

Relay squads also qualified for nationals with impressive times. The women's 4x100m team ran a qualifying time of 45.12 seconds to rank 13th in Division II. Meanwhile, the men's squad set a new program record with a time of 39.78 seconds.

Other notable achievements included Megan Postma's personal best in the 800m event at 2:06.65 and Lucas Lesher's javelin throw securing him a spot at nationals with a distance of 60.68 meters.

Athletes who didn't qualify for nationals still achieved personal milestones such as Joshua Hurt's personal best in the 110m hurdles at 14.04 seconds and Alaina Diaz’s second-best school record time of 24.05 seconds in the 200m event.

As they prepare for upcoming championships from May 22 to May 25 in Pueblo, Colorado, Grand Valley State will remain focused on training while updates continue to be shared via gvsulakers.com and social media platforms.
