Grand Valley State’s Cardamone and Bacik earn GLIAC weekly football honors

Grand Valley State University football players Anthony Cardamone and Mathew Bacik have received weekly honors from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The conference named Cardamone, a senior linebacker, as Defensive Player of the Week and Bacik, a sophomore place kicker, as Special Teams Player of the Week.

In Grand Valley State’s recent 59-13 win against Wayne State, Cardamone recorded seven tackles, including 1.5 quarterback sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss. He played a central role in holding Wayne State to just 141 yards of total offense while he was on the field. Over the season, Cardamone leads his team with 52 total tackles, 4.5 quarterback sacks, and 6.5 tackles for loss. He also has five quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery this year. His career totals now stand at 242 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss, and 19 quarterback sacks.

Bacik contributed by making a 29-yard field goal and converting all eight of his point after touchdown attempts during the game at Wayne State. He averaged nearly 54 yards on nine kickoffs with one touchback in that matchup. For the season, Bacik has made 37 out of 38 extra point attempts and five field goals, including a personal best from 54 yards.
