After a recent announcement from state officials about additional restrictions, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy called for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan lawmakers to eliminate government obstacles that restrict the fight against COVID-19.
This includes laws that roll back regulations on hospitals and other health care facilities to allow them to be more effective in the uphill battle against the increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.
Officials at the Mackinac Center have voiced their disapproval of the regulations that restrict the state from assisting hospitals and health care facilities.
"The focus in Michigan has been on limiting what citizens can do. But there is something else that government can do -- get out of the way," said Lindsay Killen, vice president for strategic outreach & communications at the Mackinac Center, on Mackinac.org. "Earlier this year, Gov. Whitmer smartly rolled back 'Certificate of Need' regulations on medical providers and licensing rules on workers. The state should suspend laws that limit hospitals and workers to help Michigan fight the virus."
