The Grand Valley State University women's soccer team, ranked sixth nationally, achieved a 7-0 victory over Roosevelt on Thursday evening in Allendale. This win marks the team's sixth consecutive victory and brings their season record to 15-2 overall and 12-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The seven goals scored are the most by GVSU in a single match since the 2022 season.
The Lakers opened scoring early, with Mackenzie Ford heading in a goal from a Sophia Morgan corner kick in the fourth minute. Less than two minutes later, Vesna Dennison capitalized on a deflection to score her second goal of the season. By halftime, GVSU had taken 11 shots while holding Roosevelt without an attempt.
In the second half, Ford added another headed goal off a Morgan corner kick, bringing her tally to four for the season. Kendall Aikens followed up one minute later with her third goal of the year after receiving a pass from Kacy Lauer. Amanda Palmer extended the lead to five goals in the 62nd minute after recovering from an initial miss and converting with her right foot.
Aikens scored again just two minutes later following an assist from Ford. With only 40 seconds left in regulation, Elianna Jeruzal netted her first collegiate goal off a pass from Lauer.
GVSU outshot Roosevelt 30-2 and held them without any corner kicks while generating 11 themselves. Ford set career highs with two goals and two assists for six points. Dennison recorded five shots and one goal. Lauer contributed two assists, extending her point streak to five games. Aikens finished with two goals and one assist on five shots. Morgan added two assists as well, tying for the team lead this season at seven assists. Both Jeruzal and Palmer scored on their only shot attempts during the match. Goalkeeper Macie Hunter registered her ninth shutout of the year with one save.
Grand Valley State will conclude its regular season on Saturday, November 8th by hosting Saginaw Valley State for Alumni Day at GVSU Soccer Field. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., and will be streamed live on FloCollege.
