The Grand Valley State women's tennis team secured a 4-2 victory over Southwest Baptist in a nonconference match held on Friday afternoon at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. This win brings the Lakers' season record to 8-6.
The doubles matches saw GVSU clinching the point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The duo of Vasileia Griva and Rachel Sam achieved a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Estefania Hernandez and Vale Mozas delivered a commanding 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Vasileia Griva earned a straight-set win of 6-2, 6-1 at the top singles position. Neus Ramos was awarded a win by retirement with scores of 6-0, 1-0 at No. 4 singles after her opponent retired from the match. Vale Mozas also secured a straight-set victory with scores of 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Meanwhile, Taylor Barrett lost in two sets with scores of 2-6, 5-7 at No. 2 singles, and Rachel Sam fell in a challenging three-set match with scores of 6-4, 3-6, and 4-6 at No. 3 singles.
Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to conclude their week on the road against GLIAC rival Ferris State on Saturday morning, with the first serve scheduled for 10:00 AM in Big Rapids.
