Grand Valley State University's track and field teams are set to embark on their first road trip of the season, competing in three different meets over two days. The Lakers will participate in the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana; the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky; and the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana. The competitions begin on Friday, January 31, and conclude on Saturday, February 1.
The University of Louisville will host the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, where a significant number of Lakers will compete. "All eight women and 16 men will compete in field events," according to the release. Participants include Marcus Gelpi, Jaivon Harrison, Eli Kosiba, Jonathan Rankins-James, Kaylee Diamond for high jump; Wyatt Alwine, Colton Emeott, Dolan Gonzales, Brooke Bowers for pole vault; Andrew Berryhill, Gerald Capaccio, Myles Kerner (#7 NCAA), Erika Beistle (#13 NCAA), Mackenzie Bohrer, Kennedy Jackson, Margaret Stevenson for shot put; Michael Griffey, Myles Kerner, Lucas Lesher, James Mackey Jr., Kennedy Jackson and Shelby Ulven for weight throw. Mason Floria will be the sole competitor in the heptathlon.
At the Midwest Classic held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center in Indianapolis, eight men and 13 women from Grand Valley State will compete. Events include: "60m –Michael McNeil, Myles Rhodes; Jayla Graham, Taylor Kyle, Melia Williams," "60m HH –Dominic Downes, Joshua Hurt," among others.
Meanwhile at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Saturday only mid-distance and distance runners from Grand Valley State will participate. Events include: "800m – Samuel Allen," "1 Mile – Caleb Futter," "3000m – Koby Fraaza" among others.
