Junior midfielder Sonya Mehta has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement made by the league office on October 27. This is Mehta’s first time receiving the offensive player of the week recognition this season.
In Grand Valley State’s recent match against Michigan Tech, Mehta contributed significantly by scoring two goals and providing two assists in a 6-1 victory. She opened the scoring in the sixth minute and assisted on what became the game-winning goal in the 27th minute. Mehta also scored the final goal for her team in the 54th minute, helping secure their highest-scoring game so far this season.
Currently, Mehta holds second place on her team for both goals (five) and assists (four), and she is third overall with 14 points for the season.
Grand Valley State will play Davenport at home on Friday, October 31 at 5:00 pm. The team will then face Purdue Northwest on Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 pm for Senior Day. Both matches are scheduled to be streamed live on FloCollege.
