Grand Valley State completes first day at multi-state track meets

The Grand Valley State track and field team has completed the first day of a three-day competition at multiple events across Texas and North Carolina. The Lakers are participating in the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State, the Texas Relays at the University of Texas, and the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina.

At the Bobcat Invitational, Margaret Stevenson secured second place in the women's discus "A" section with a personal-best throw of 52.45 meters. In men's discus, James Mackey Jr. and Nathan Spitzley finished 17th and 18th respectively, with throws of 50.13 meters and 49.87 meters.

In Austin at the Texas Relays, Bobby Maxwell achieved sixth place in men's javelin with a throw of 62.06 meters. Shane Byrne placed 13th in men's hammer throw with a distance of 60.32 meters.

The sprints team began their participation at the Texas Relays in the men's and women's 400m hurdles. Fallou Gaye narrowly missed qualifying for the men's final event, finishing 15th with a time of 52.44 seconds. Ashtyn Gluck recorded a personal best in the same event with a time of 1:04.24.

Meanwhile, at the Raleigh Relays, Caleb Futter finished 15th out of 70 Division I athletes in men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:46.58. Koby Fraaza set a new personal best in men's 5000m with a time of 13:56.31, placing him 43rd out of 193 entries.

Day two will see continued competition for Grand Valley State starting at various times across all three locations.
